Dear Prime Minister Tusk,

We write to you to express our deep concerns regarding the Commission Proposal for a Regulation on plants obtained by new genomic techniques (NGT) and their food and feed.

The current proposal is characterised by far-reaching shortcomings regarding health and environmental risk assessment, possible impacts on farmers, transparency and rights of producers, retailers, consumers and public authorities. Herbicide-tolerant and pesticide-producing crops pose major concerns. Therefore, the proposal will not contribute to long-term sustainable, efficient and truly resilient food production in the EU, on the contrary. Poland recognized those shortcomings, and the expected negative impacts this Regulation, if adopted, will have on farmers, citizens and ecosystems. Poland is one of the countries that up to now prioritised a sustainable future for their farmers, resilient food systems, as well as the well-being of citizens and biodiversity.
