"Save the bees and farmers" is the name of an important and ambitious European Citizens' Initiative that collects signatures across Europe to make EU agriculture harmless to bees, by putting pesticides out of use.
The goal of the initiative is to collect 1,000,000 signatures to compel the European Commission and the European Parliament to take further steps to remove pesticides from use in agriculture and to create models to support farmers in their transition to sustainable agriculture.
Initiative has three key demands:
- A phase-out of the use of synthetic pesticides (reduction by up to 80% by 2030 and phasing out pesticides from EU agricultural production by 2035)
- Measures to recover biodiversity
- Support to farmers in the transition to organic farming and for research in this area.
As part of the European Citizens' Initiative "Save the Bees and Farmers", we are collecting signatures across Europe in favour of an agricultural policy that reconciles the needs of farmers and nature. This initiative arose from the observation of an industrial agricultural model in crisis and biodiversity that is today, more than ever, strongly endangered.
The European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) is an instrument of participatory democracy that enables the citizens of the European Union to influence European policies. If we manage to collect at least one million signatures, the European Commission and the European Parliament are obliged to respond to our demands for a more sustainable agricultural model.
The initiative is supported by a large alliance with more than 200 organizations and associations from all over the European Union, and has received support from over 762,000 European citizens.
We invite you to contribute to the protection of bees from the harmful effects of pesticides, as well as the preservation of natural resources, adding your voice on the website of the initiative: https://www.savebeesandfarmers.eu/eng
For bees, for farmers, for all people.
